Shelf Life

How you look after your beer can make a huge difference to the taste. Below are some tips about how to keep your beer at its best.

Top tip: keep your beer in the fridge, regardless of the style. Remove the beer half an hour before you’ll enjoy it so it can reach the 8–12-degree sweet spot for taste.

  • Polypins (draft beer) sizes 10l and 20l

Shelf life

These products contain fresh beer and have a short shelf life compared to bottled, kegged and canned beer. The beer is best within 5 days of purchase, drunk as fresh as possible and within 1-2 days of opening.

Storage

To be at its best, fresh beer should be stored in a cool environment somewhere around 8-12 degrees (a garage is ideal). If you’d like your beer at fridge temperature please be aware that a harmless ‘chill haze’ may develop, the haze will not affect the flavour of the beer but may reduce its clarity. It’s also best to keep your beer out of direct sunlight.

  • 5l mini kegs

Shelf life

Mini kegs can keep beer in great condition for up to 7 days and potentially longer. Although, this depends upon the beer it is filled with (i.e., cask or keg) so please check when you purchase.

A mini keg means you can enjoy draft beer at home over a number of days with no drop in quality, but we recommend drinking the beer within 2 days once opened – but it is only about 8 pints, so shouldn’t be a problem!

  •  casks 72 pints

Shelf life

These products contain fresh beer and should be used as soon as possible once opened. Unopened the beer will be suitable for up to 3 months but please check the cask which will have a label with Best Before Date shown.

Once opened, especially if some beer has been enjoyed, moving the barrel with beer inside will result in it losing condition (it’s carbonation) and becoming flat, therefore we recommend 72 barrels only for parties/events where it will get finished within 3 to 4 days.

Storage

To be at its best, fresh beer should be stored in a cool environment somewhere around 8-12 degrees, a garage is ideal. If being used in the heat (e.g., in a marquee on a hot day), a cooling jacket or soaking towel can be used to keep the beer cool.

If needed, we can supply jackets on loan after the purchase.

  • Bottled beers, 500ml

Shelf life

These products contain filtered beer, so they have a much longer shelf life than draft beer. We put a year on the label from when it is bottled, however the rule still stands – fresh is best, so don’t let it hang around too long.

Some enjoy beers chilled to around 5 degrees, and in summer this can be a great way to enjoy a refreshing bottle of our wonderful beers, too.

  • Canned beers, 440ml

Shelf life

These products contain single-filtered beer, so they have a shorter shelf life than bottled beer. We put six months on the label from when it is bottled, however the rule still stands – fresh is best, so don’t let it hang around too long.
